The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. Members attending were Ruth Anderson, Mark Gundlach, Roger Zweifel, Ted Fahey, and Ricky Kiesling. Two new members joined the committee, Butch and Colleen Peschl. Mark moved to approve the minutes from the February 7 meeting, and Ted seconded. Motion passed.
BUDGET: We have $6552.62 in our account. There may be several outstanding bills. Ted moved to approve, and Mark seconded. Motion carried.
OLD BUSINESS:
· Park water—We are gathering information. Discussion is tabled for a future meeting.
· Basketball court—We are considering about a 30 foot by 40 foot area, enough room for free throw and 3-pt. line. Roger will check with the school on sizing. He will check on prices from Bartel and Monroe.
· Additional electrical outlets in the shelter—Ted will check with an electrician.
· Large soccer nets—They have been removed from the park.
· Playground horse—This has been repaired.
· Cigarette ash container—Mark will get this purchased.
· Privacy fence around the portable toilets—We discussed placing a fence around three sides of the toilets. Ted and Alton will look into this. Ruth moved to approve installing the fence; Roger seconded. Motion passed.
· Refinishing picnic tables in shelter—Roger volunteered to refinish them.
· Scrapbook of park improvements—Ruth is collecting photos and buying the scrapbook. Candee has information on the history of the park purchase. Anyone with pictures of improvements to the park is asked to forward copies to Ruth.
· Annual picnic—Ruth moved to continue the annual picnic; Butch seconded. Motion carried. The picnic will continue to be the Sunday after Labor Day, September 9, 2012. We will discuss details of the picnic at a future meeting.
NEW BUSINESS:
· The sign posts at the park entrance are peeling. Ricky volunteered to scrape and repaint them.
· Ricky proposed to add a butterfly/hummingbird garden to the park. She can order native plants from the Friends of the Arboretum. The cost of the plants is $97 for 38 plants. She proposes to contain a bed of approximately 40 sq. ft. and eventually label the plants for educational purposes. She and members of SCWMGA (Green County master gardeners) will install and maintain beds. Ruth moved to approve purchase and installation of the butterfly garden. Mark seconded. Motion carried. Ricky asked for suggestions from the committee for the location of the garden. We will look at this at our next site meeting.
· Ted suggested adding fertilizer to the park turf. He will get the price for doing this. Discussion will be tabled for a future meeting.
· Butch volunteered to care for our large oak tree (The General) as well as our new saplings. Butch mentioned his concern at seeing cars parked under the oak. This can damage the tree. He is able to provide mulch from his tree care business to place around the base of the tree. Ricky moved to approve having Butch and Colleen mulch and care for the trees; Mark seconded. Motion carried. Ricky mentioned that we might need to put several posts and chain around the tree to keep vehicles off the area. This will be discussed at a future meeting.
· Disc golf—The Luchsingers wish to donate several trees to be planted on the course, especially around the hole they sponsor. The committee will have a site meeting on March 31 at 10 a.m. We will look at sites for the trees and butterfly garden.
The next meeting is scheduled for May 1, 2012 at 7 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Ricky Kiesling, Secretary

Site meeting
Ted, Ruth, Roger, Butch and Ricky met at the park. Jared Sarbacker joined us. We marked a site for the butterfly garden on the north side of the shelter beyond the well. We discussed where to place trees. Jared’s friend is drawing up a disc golf course plan which includes where future plantings could be made to enhance the course. Jared will provide copies of the map when it is finished. We also decided to leave the toilets where they are now, and the fence will go around the west, north, and east sides leaving the doorways open to the sidewalk. We discussed placement of the basketball half court. We agreed that the area just west of the playground is probably the best spot.
